I’ve finally finished my yellow postcards. A month late, but they’re done. Now it’s time to move on to the blues, which I’ve already started on, but haven’t finished.

My favorite card is the last one; the one that looks like a tattooed nude. It started off as a chair, but it’s shape was asking for some transmorphification. Most of these are a combination of many media: watercolor, collage, pigment inks and embossing power, markers, and transparencies.
I ended up using the hooded raincoat girl more than the other one… and the raincoat ended up looking more cloak-like but it fit into the mandala concept well. I flip them over and then address them randomly, so I hope whoever gets each one will be happy with what they get.
I’ve not written in a while. I’ve been busy with… reading the new (and final) Harry Potter book… work… preparing food for the family… taking the kids to the pool… buying kitchen implements and stuff (including some cupcake mixes packaged by Sprinkles and purchasing a yoghourt machine)… I’ll put up some “catch-up” posts this weekend. Things I’m bummed about lately: missing the San Diego Comic-Con this week… the fact that the recently released Harry Potter book may perhaps be the last… that people at my place of work continue to antagonize me in ways I can’t even begin to explain, but mostly having to do with an incredibly devolved person with control issues… my struggles with being accepting of others (including their patently obvious faults) and accepting the same in myself… deflated about not being in business for myself, and being able to make a living from my writing or my art… which should really be prefaced with a) kicking self in butt for not finishing my college education and b) not having enough self-discipline or self-motivation to figure out how to “get there from here” on my own… and finally… feeling profoundly lonely.

The work week has finally waned and I am so ready for the weekend! I have been trying to catch up on blog posting (yes, I’ve been back-posting… shame on me!) and have a few more entries to post (one of which will talk about our latest acquisitions earlier this week: iPhones… what sublime gadgetry)! In any case, I took Gabriel and his buddies to the pool this afternoon and, while there, sketched a bit. The eye (above) is one of them. Not bad for the limited palette. I’m hoping to finish up my yellow postcards and get started on the next batch (blues) and on the Gothica project (another back-post which will go up shortly).

I’ve been working on my (June) yellow postcards… they were supposed to go out around the 1st of July but as usual, I balked and I’m still working on them. I’d collaged and painted a sheet of watercolor paper and cut it up. I’m at the next (and hopefully final) step of adding some final elements to most of them. Some of them seemed to need more than a little touch up, and I thought I’d draw some raincoat clad people and apply them to the tops of the collaged backgrounds (hence the sketch, above, of the raincoat girl). Will post more this weekend, by which time I hope to have completed the cards.
Historically, I’ve barely managed to stay up past 9:30PM on the 4th of July, and while Gabriel and Steve invariably go out hunting for fireworks, I am happily viewing the insides of my eyelids. This year I thought I’d try something different and since a group of us from work signed up for the Pacific Symphony’s Summer 2007 Concerts, and the first one was scheduled for July 4th, I figured I purchase a couple more tickets and have Steve and Gabriel join in on the revelry as well. With Richard Kaufman as conductor, the first half of the show was my favorite, highlighted with music from several motion pictures, including Splash and Jaws. The second half featured the tribute band, Papa Doo Ron Ron, playing a variety of Beach Boys music. I’ve never been a huge fan of this type of music, but the tunes were catchy and the weather was right, and it was still a good time. It was all capped off with a smashing display of fireworks. The only pity was that I had to go to work the next day. Oh… and the dessert box from Bristol Farms was FABulous… mmmm… chocolate dipped strawberries… petit fours… chocolatey goodnesses!
